Cloud-to-edge computing provider VPLS has acquired a 30,000 sqft data centre located in Santa Clara, California.

The renamed “SV3” has 3 MW of total IT load and currently has 1.5 MW of available capacity for colocation customers.

Jay Smith, Vice President and General Managers, Data Centers at VPLS, said: “We are excited to continue the expansion of our global network with the addition of a data centre strategically located in the heart of Silicon Valley.

“This latest investment in one of the most supply-constrained West Coast markets further solidifies VPLS’s commitment to invest in key markets where customers need us most.”

The centre has a network density with connections to over 20 native fibre providers and carriers with direct fibre links to EQX, CoreSite, DRT, and other data centres.

It also provides direct fibre on-ramp to major public clouds including AWS, Azure, Oracle, GCP, Alibaba, Salesforce, IBM, and Tencent.

Arman Khalili, CEO of VPLS, added: “We would like to welcome our new clients to VPLS and look forward in partnering with them. The West Coast and, specifically, Silicon Valley, are an important interconnected access point both for VPLS and our customers.”

VPLS’s global network consists of over 18 facilities across more than 10 countries including the US, Poland and Singapore, and points-of-presence in Hong Kong, Thailand, the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

The company announced last August the completion of the acquisition of its second Texas data center location (DA2). The property includes 18.8 acres of land and a 75,000 square foot, 10-megawatt facility that is currently 100% leased to a data and technology company.
