Data centre services and eco-systems as well as models of sustainability and energy efficiency have evolved in the northern Nordic region from the time that Google converted a paper mill now powered by three wind farms in Hamina in Finland, and Facebook constructed a facility in Luleå, in northern Sweden. Subsequent development in Norway, Iceland and Denmark has established the region as a highly competitive zone for the availability of renewable energy, low power costs, free air-cooling, sea-water cooling and extensive water resources.
