Officially the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, is the capital of Argentina and the second largest city south of the Tropic of Capricorn. City population has maintained around 3 million since 1947, but the suburbs have expanded to around 10 million since then. The services sector leads employment for the labor force with about 25%. Second to that is commerce and tourism at 20% followed by business and financial services at 17%.
Meat, dairy, grain, tobacco, wool and leather products are processed or manufactured in the Buenos Aires metro area. Other leading industries are automobile manufacturing, oil refining, metalworking, machine-building, and the production of textiles, chemicals, clothing and beverages.
