Duos Technologies Group, through its Duos Edge AI unit, has deployed a new edge data centre in Abilene, Texas, with the Region 14 Education Service Center, expanding the company’s presence in the state.

The facility will operate as a local, carrier-neutral colocation site and computing hub. Duos said on Wednesday that it will provide higher bandwidth and secure local data processing for more than 40 school districts and charter schools across an 11-county area covering over 13,000 square miles.

By siting the centre at Region 14, the partners said the project is intended to improve access to digital services in rural and underserved communities.

They said it will support faster use of education tools, cloud services, and data-intensive applications, while reducing reliance on distant, centralised data centres.

The Abilene deployment follows earlier Duos Edge AI installations in Amarillo, Waco, and Victoria, as the company targets edge computing projects linked to education, healthcare, and enterprise demand.

Doug Recker, Duos’ president and founder of Duos Edge AI, said the partnership would expand local compute capacity across West Texas.

“This EDC represents our commitment to fostering innovation and economic growth in regions that have historically faced connectivity challenges,” he added.

The site is expected to be fully operational in early 2026, with plans for a launch event at Region 14 ESC’s headquarters in Abilene.

Chris Wigington, executive director for Region 14 ESC, said working with Duos Edge AI would strengthen the technology available to schools and partners, and broaden access to high-speed computing resources. He added the centre would improve student learning, teacher development, and regional collaboration.

In late December, Duos expanded its footprint with additional deployments in Texas and its first move into Illinois, targeting the Greater Chicagoland area. In Texas, the company added two edge data centres in Lubbock.

In a November interview with The Tech Capital, Recker said the Texas rollout was moving quickly. He said Duos Edge AI was targeting 15 micro data centres in the state this year, with six already deployed, and expected to reach that figure by year-end.

The company was concentrating on Tier III and Tier IV markets, where network access and capacity remain uneven. By placing micro facilities near schools and healthcare providers, he said Duos Edge AI aims to bring computing closer to users and support data-intensive applications locally.
