Orange Morocco, a subsidiary of Orange S.A. (EPA: ORA), has acquired a site from Etix Everywhere – a Vantage Data Centers business – in Casablanca in its latest move to serve the Kingdom’s ICT sector. No financial details of the deal have been shared.
The data centre – Casablanca’s only Tier III facility – has enjoyed 100% service continuity since its commissioning in May 2015.
Orange plans to expand the building’s capacity to more than 1,000 kW via three independent technical modules.
The company said it aims to support both companies and individuals but also the major accounts in their digitalisation strategy by offering hosting space but also by extending the offer of public and private cloud infrastructures in the now acquired Etix Everywhere Maroc site.
Brahim Sbai, vice president B2B of Orange Morocco, said: “Data centres are strategic assets for Orange’s development and Morocco for two reasons. Firstly, they contribute to the development of IT services for our corporate customers in line with the group’s Engage 2025 plan.
“Under this plan, the group’s subsidiaries will position themselves as real IT/Telecom infrastructure service operators. These will have to also accompany companies with the advent of 5G, which is demanding in terms of latency and promises explosive growth in data volume: we will have to therefore revise the design of our network architecture, bringing the centres closer together and hosting our antennas, in order to guarantee a latency period that meets the requirements of the new 5G issues.
“The innovative design of Etix data centres Everywhere enables us to meet these two challenges.”
