Tata Communications is investing in additional subsea cable capacity to strengthen connectivity between India and Singapore, as demand grows from cloud, AI and data centre customers.
The company said the investments will expand its Tata Global Network by adding capacity on the Mumbai–Singapore route and through its participation in a new consortium cable system connecting Chennai and Singapore.
The Chennai–Singapore system is expected to be ready for service in the fourth quarter of 2029.
Tata Communications said the expanded routes are intended to support higher-capacity, lower-latency connectivity between India, Southeast Asia and global markets.
The investment will help serve enterprise, cloud, hyperscale and data centre customers as AI-related traffic increases across the region.
“As global demand for digital and AI-driven services continues to accelerate, these investments reinforce our commitment to building future-ready digital infrastructure at scale,” said Genius Wong, executive VP – core and next-gen connectivity services, and CTO, Tata Communications.
The investments are aimed at improving the reliability, scale and performance of the company’s connectivity services on the India–Singapore route. Wong added that the expansion is part of Tata Communications’ broader plan to grow its global subsea network and support India’s role as a digital infrastructure hub.
The new cable systems will connect with Tata Communications’ terrestrial fibre network in India, providing onward connectivity to other parts of the country and more than 100 data centres nationwide.
The capacity will also be integrated with Tata Communications’ global TGN subsea network and IZO connectivity services, allowing customers to add and manage data centre and cloud connectivity on demand.
Tata Communications said its network spans more than 500,000km of subsea fibre and over 200,000km of terrestrial fibre.
In 2025, the company integrated the TGN IA2 submarine cable, improving latency, redundancy and network diversity across Asia.
Tata Communications, part of the Tata Group, provides connectivity, cloud, security, collaboration and media services to enterprises across more than 190 countries and territories.
