Skybox Datacenters has unveiled plans for a 30 megawatt (MW), 189,000-square-foot facility in the famous Midwest data centre destination of Elk Grove Village in Chicago.

The Chicago market is one of the US’ primary peering and interconnection hubs featuring proximity to cloud providers and exchanges as well as substantial network availability to major metros.

The new Skybox Chicago I data centre is located 22 miles from downtown Chicago and nine miles from O’Hare International Airport.

The facility is designed to allow users to benefit from the Illinois Sales Tax Incentives approved and implemented in October of 2019.

These tax exemptions apply to both data centre construction and purchased IT equipment.

Skybox Powered by Prologis, a logistics real estate firm, is a new joint-venture focused on developing key assets in primary data centre markets.

Rob Morris, CEO of Dallas-based Skybox Datacenters, said: “Skybox is thrilled to work with a powerhouse like Prologis.

“Our partnership will bring together two very important roles: Skybox will provide leading data centre development and leasing expertise while Prologis will bring substantial holdings in the local Chicago market and throughout the United States. We are excited to see this partnership elevate data centre sector standards with best in class real estate and data centre collaboration in a booming market like Elk Grove.”

Skybox Datacenters has active development and operations teams located in Dallas, Houston, West Texas, Chicago and Santa Clara.
