Data encryption has emerged as a well-proven method of bolstering data security and supporting regulatory compliance. Despite this, it remains under-utilized. Indeed, in 2020 only slightly more than one half (56 per cent) of businesses worldwide used data encryption extensively, according to a recent Statista survey. Further to this, only slightly more than one quarter (27 per cent) of businesses had partially deployed data encryption.
