LATAM data centre operator Tecto has made significant progress in the construction of its third data centre in Fortaleza, a key interconnection hub in the Southern Hemisphere.

According to the group, the facility, named Mega Lobster, has completed its precast structure and is moving towards the commissioning phase.

With a capacity of 20 megawatts, the site is scheduled to begin operations in the second half of 2025.

The project represents an investment of R$550 million (US$110 million).

Located in Praia do Futuro, Mega Lobster is designed to meet the high-volume data storage and processing demands of content companies, cloud providers, internet firms, and telecommunications operators.

The data centre’s design incorporates sustainable features, including a closed water circuit and the use of 100% renewable energy.

Mega Lobster will house ten data halls and will be connected to Tecto’s two existing data centres in the area.

It will also integrate with parent company V.tal’s high-capacity fibre optic network, forming part of a national and international connectivity ecosystem.

The project is expected to generate over 450 jobs during its construction and operational phases, contributing to the economic development of the region.

Upon completion, Mega Lobster will be Tecto’s third facility in Fortaleza, offering solutions for operators, content providers, and cloud services to access the Ceará Internet Exchange Point (PIX).

This exchange point currently handles the second-largest volume of internet traffic in Brazil.

A spokesperson for Tecto said: “The completion of the precast structure marks a significant milestone in the Mega Lobster project. We are now focusing on the facade completion and the installation of internal infrastructure, including cable laying, fire detection and suppression systems, and closed-circuit image monitoring.”

The construction team is simultaneously working on multiple aspects of the project. While the facade is being completed at an accelerated pace, internal infrastructure installation is progressing, including the implementation of critical systems for the data centre’s operation and security.

Mega Lobster is set to further solidify Fortaleza’s position as a key digital hub in Brazil.

The city’s strategic location, with access to international submarine cables, makes it an attractive site for data centre investments.
