Texas data centre group DataBank said it will invest in the expansion of its KC3 facility in Kansas City, in the state of Missouri, to meet growing demand in the region.

With the expansion of its Kansas City KC3 site, the business will establish two new data halls, including 9,300 sq ft in Data Hall 2 and 8,050 sq ft in Data Hall 3.

Each hall will be filled with nominally 1MW of 2N redundant electrical infrastructure and HVAC equipment required to cool the space.

Tony Qorri, vice president of Construction for DataBank, said: “With the expansion of our KC3 facility, we will be building out Data Halls 2 and 3. The scope of the project includes adding 9,300 sq. ft. in Data Hall 2 and 8,050 sq. ft. in Data Hall 3 and adding an additional 2MW of capacity to the building.

“Kansas City is a market where we have demand and we’re looking to max out that facility by building out the other two data halls. This is a significant expansion that will triple the sellable white space across the footprint of the entire facility.”

Tim Flynn, regional vice president of midwest sales for DataBank, added: “This expansion demonstrates our commitment to the market and belief in its vitality today and in the future.”

DataBank has been on a steady expansion roadmap buying, building and launching new plots of land and facilities across the US.

In early October, the operator acquired a 34-acre plot of land in Orangeburg, New York, to build a 200,000 square foot data centre.

The previous month, DataBank opened data halls number four and five in its SLC5 data centre, located at the company’s 23-acre Granite Point North campus complex in Bluffdale, Utah.

The announcement came on the heels of the company’s recently announced opening of data hall three at the same location.

Over the summer, DataBank also begun construction of another Salt Lake City data centre facility, SLC6, to meet demand for IT infrastructure in Utah and the Salt Lake City market.

Located in Bluffdale, UT, between Salt Lake City and Utah’s “Silicon Slopes”, SLC6 resides on DataBank’s Granite Point Campus. In total, the 23-acre campus includes DataBank’s own private 66MW N+1 power substation.

DataBank portfolio comprises today 60+ data centres, modular/micro data centres, and 20 neutral interconnects.

DataBank’s investors include DigitalBridge (NYSE: DBRG), Allstate Corporation (NYSE: ALL), CBRE Caledon Capital Management Inc., Nuveen, Dock Square Capital, and Adams Street Partners.
